The principal mission of the Pew Institute
for Ocean Science is to undertake, sponsor and promote world-class
scientific activity aimed at protecting the world's oceans
and the species that inhabit them. The scientific role of the
institute is to increase public understanding of the causes
and consequences of problems affecting the marine environment.
The conservation role is to promote solutions to these problems.
The Pew Institute for Ocean Science will fulfill its mission
by conducting and sponsoring groundbreaking interdisciplinary
scientific, economic, and policy research and analysis to support
conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems and highly
threatened marine fish populations. The Institute will provide
science-based solutions that are urgently needed to guide policy
makers and the general public to make better informed and more
effective choices for ocean conservation. The Institute will
provide selective technical assistance and scientific support
for marine conservation efforts and will also manage the Pew
Fellows in Marine Conservation, the most prestigious marine
fellows program in the world. |
